Screen Printing

I visited the Royal Brighton Pavilion, as it is the most famous architectural achievement of the Regency Period and a truly remarkable place that is full of unique points of design. I took a collection of photographs around the Pavilion that could then be used as further development.

I created lots of rotation patterns in Photoshop that could be layered on top of each other so I could portray both architectural and interior design in one concept. I also experimented with composition. I then used the final design towards a screen print, taking inspiration from architectural screen print artist Lucille Clerc.

My backgrounds for the print were decided on after using lots of colour experimentation. I then printed my favourite onto the printing paper to be screen printed onto. I drew a background design onto acetate and transferred this onto a screen.

My best screen prints were then used in my experimentation of sublimation printing, which transferred the designs onto fabric. I also put these designs onto fabric to use further media by creating fabric cyanotypes to further represent the design.
