Royal Portraiture - Photography Project
I wanted to include some sections of my Photography A-Level Personal Investigation. This project was inspired by Royal Portraits through history.
I studied many time periods that I personally found the most interesting; both the portraits and the fashion. These were: Tudor period, 18th century France (Marie Antoinette), Victorian and modern Royals.
The biggest part of my project was inspired by Marie Antoinette. I researched all the many ways she had been portrayed in contemporary art and how it differed in artistic style. I experimented with paint to add traditional fine art mediums into a modern portrait, photographic etching printing and different Photoshop techniques that further developed my skill.
This led to my final piece concept as I Photoshopped fashion that represented all the time periods, I studied from exhibitions I had been to through the year onto my model image. I then etched these images to create prints, using different techniques, I could then paint onto the prints to modernise the idea of classic portraits. I wanted these to almost mock the style of the rigid portraits we all know Royal portraits to be and add more fun to the concept.
