Beginnings

My first design and construction project was for my GCSE Art and Design (Photography) final piece. This specific project was initially under the title ‘Fashion Photography’ and was heavily influenced by vintage fashion and the photography that accompanied it; such as Horst P Horst and Irvin Penn. Penn’s 60s photoshoots inspired the design of the dress as well as the festive season at the time.

I first took photos of my model and double exposed festive objects onto her face using Photoshop. This was then printed onto fabric so I could construct my dress design; the same model then wore the dress to be photographed and the image was transformed into a Vogue Cover. The ribbon throughout the piece is also a nod to Horst P Horsts ‘little mess’ in his famed Mainbocher corset.

I was really pleased with this outcome and the fact that I challenged myself to go further than the course needed, it also solidified my passion for designing and thinking up fun concepts.
